Prepare two useful versions
Keep the original screenshot as your record. Make a second copy containing the picture without notifications, chat text or account details. Avoid sharpening or repainting it: those changes introduce information that was not present in the source. If a logo or distinctive background is part of the question, retain it in a separate crop.
Run a controlled search
- Search the clean photograph crop first.
- Repeat with the wider image if the first results are unrelated.
- Open candidate source pages and compare composition, not just colours.
- Record which version produced the useful result.
For example, a screenshot of a sofa advertisement may produce app-interface matches until the buttons are removed. A later match to a furniture catalogue establishes reuse of that photograph, not whether the seller owns the sofa.
When to stop cropping
If every version is tiny or heavily compressed, ask for the original file through the normal conversation. A tighter crop cannot recover missing detail. Keep “no match found” separate from “the image is original”: the search may simply lack that source.
