Check the face matches the story.
Before you pay a deposit, hire a freelancer or meet a new contact, search their photo. See if the same face appears on pages that confirm their name and job, or under someone else’s.
Anyone who asks for trust before you can meet them
A photo is the one thing most online contacts share. It is also the easiest thing to fake.
Landlords and agents
A rental that needs a deposit before a viewing, from someone who is “abroad right now”.
Marketplace sellers
High-value items, a smiling profile photo and a request to pay outside the platform.
Freelancers and contractors
A great portfolio and a headshot. Check both belong to the same real person.
New business contacts
An investor, recruiter or partner whose LinkedIn looks perfect but has few connections.

Profile pictures and headshots work best. Add the name they gave you to rank matching pages higher.
Review independent sources
Look for company pages, news, conference bios or club results that show the same face and name.
Decide with evidence
Consistent pages are reassuring. A different name or a stock-photo source is a reason to stop.
What counts as a good sign, and what doesn’t
The source page is what matters. Facehunch links every result so you can read it yourself.
Independent confirmation
An employer’s team page, a professional body or a local news story with the same face and name.
A borrowed headshot
The same face on a stock site, or on another company’s page under a different name.
No presence at all
Not proof of a scam, but for a “senior executive” or “established landlord” it is worth asking why.
Results show public web pages only. A match is a lead to check, not proof of identity.
Use a photo check as one part of verification
A face search answers one question: where else does this face appear in public? For most everyday checks that is enough to catch the common fraud, a borrowed photo with an invented identity.
For bigger decisions, combine it with other checks. For a landlord, confirm ownership through the land registry or a letting agent and never pay before a viewing. For a seller, use the platform’s payment protection. For a freelancer, ask for a short video call and check that past clients exist.
Facehunch is not a background-check or screening service, and results must not be used for tenancy, employment, credit or insurance decisions. Read background check vs photo search for the difference.

Questions people ask
Is this a background check?
No. Facehunch shows public web pages where a similar face appears. It does not check criminal, credit or court records, and it is not a consumer reporting agency. Do not use results for employment, housing, credit or insurance decisions.
Will the person know I searched?
No. Facehunch never contacts the person in the photo.
What if they have no online presence?
Many genuine people keep a low profile. An empty result is not evidence of fraud; use other checks such as a video call or platform payment protection.
How much does it cost?
$9 for one search, with no subscription. Packs of five and ten searches are available for regular checks.

Ask what role the freelancer played in each project. A shared image may reflect teamwork, a licensed mock-up or unauthorised copying; image search alone cannot distinguish those relationships.
