THE DETAILS

Trace help centre

Choose the fictional sample to explore, or a consented API test to check the workflow.

Open the workspace

Go to /app. The fictional sample is the quickest way to explore the interface. Sample portraits, findings and sources are illustrative; they are not real search evidence.

Start an API test

Select a supported image up to 10 MB that you are entitled to submit. Review the consent and test-mode explanation, then start the test. Selecting a file alone is not the same as sending it to the provider. Once started, Trace uploads it to FaceCheck and polls for the result.

Understand the results

The API always uses FaceCheck testing mode. It has limited coverage and its returned matches are not meaningful identity evidence. Scores describe provider similarity, not the probability that someone is the same person. Open source links only when you understand they lead to third-party websites.

Handle a failed request

Check the image format and size. If a rate limit appears, wait before trying again. A provider error or unavailable service may require a later retry. Repeating uploads will not fix an absent index entry. Paid searches remain disabled even if the provider account has credits.

End the test

Trace requests removal of the search input after completion or cancellation. Check any cleanup message; a failed request is not confirmed deletion. See photo removal for upstream and source-image removal. The dashboard is part of the app, not a public search page.
