How people find out

Impersonation usually surfaces by accident

A friend spots a profile, or a stranger messages you about a conversation you never had.

01

A friend sends a screenshot

“Is this you on a dating app?” The profile has your face and a different name.

02

Strangers say you scammed them

Your photos were used in a romance or investment scam and victims found you.

03

A cloned social account

Your name and photos, sending friend requests to people you know.

04

Your photos selling something

Ads, shops or adult sites using your face without consent.

How it works

From one photo to every source page.

Sign in with an email code when you run your first search. No forms, no monthly plan.

01

Search several photos

Use the pictures the fake account used, plus a recent one of yours. Each search may find different pages.

02

Collect the evidence

Your saved report keeps every link with a similarity score and the date you found it.

03

Report and remove

Use each platform’s impersonation form, attaching your links and proof of identity.

What you get

Evidence platforms act on

Impersonation reports go faster with specific links. Facehunch gives you a list of them.

Every account using your face

Across social networks, dating sites, forums and image sites that are public.

Where the photos came from

Usually your own public profile. Knowing which one helps you lock it down.

A dated record

A saved report to attach to platform reports, police reports or a lawyer’s letter.

Results show public web pages only. A match is a lead to check, not proof of identity.

The method

How to get fake accounts taken down

Report through the official impersonation forms. Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok, X, LinkedIn and dating apps all have dedicated forms for accounts pretending to be you. You may need to show ID. Reporting from your own account is faster than a friend reporting for you.

Warn the people around you. Post on your real accounts that a fake exists and that you will never ask for money. Scammers using your face often target your friends next.

If money or explicit images are involved, go further. Report to the police and, in the US, to the FBI’s IC3. Our guide on documenting photo impersonation shows how to build the report.

Reduce future copying. Make old public albums private and use a different profile photo on dating apps than on public social accounts. See protecting your photos online.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Can Facehunch take the fake accounts down?

No, only the platform hosting an account can remove it. Facehunch finds the pages and gives you links to include in your reports.

Can it find fake dating-app profiles using my photos?

Only if they are visible on the public web. Profiles inside dating apps are not public pages. Ask friends who use the app to report anything they see.

How often should I search?

Search now, then again after the platforms act. If impersonation continues, a search every month or two is a sensible rhythm.

How much does it cost?

$9 for one search. The five-search pack ($29) suits searching several photos at once.
