Keep the message context
Note the sender, issue date and caption. Do not forward private subscriber information or upload an entire email just to search a picture. Save only the relevant image copy when you have permission.
Facehunch the publication
- Follow the visible credit or article link.
- Compare the linked page's image and caption.
- Search the picture if attribution remains unclear.
- Record the source-page URL separately from the email image URL.
An image hosted on an email platform's content server is not necessarily created by that platform. The sender may have uploaded a licensed photograph or an original illustration.
Resolve the right question
If you want reuse permission, locate the creator or licence record rather than assuming newsletter inclusion grants it. If you are checking a factual claim, read the original article's context. A matching file helps trace distribution, but it does not validate the newsletter's interpretation of the image.
Continue with tracing an original source.
