Check the creator's own record or another credible primary publication. Do not replace one uncertain credit with a different name found near a similar image.

2. Correct misleading caption details.
3. Check social-preview and downloadable versions you control.
4. Keep a dated editorial note when the change is substantive.

If an image was labelled as a current event but is an archive photograph, changing only the photographer's name leaves the more important error untouched.
