Confirm the new source
Check the creator's own record or another credible primary publication. Do not replace one uncertain credit with a different name found near a similar image.
Make the correction complete
- Update the visible credit and relevant link.
- Correct misleading caption details.
- Check social-preview and downloadable versions you control.
- Keep a dated editorial note when the change is substantive.
If an image was labelled as a current event but is an archive photograph, changing only the photographer's name leaves the more important error untouched.
Preserve accountability
Keep the evidence behind the correction in your editorial record. Avoid blaming a search engine for an inference you made from its results. A clear correction explains what changed and gives readers the source needed to assess the revised presentation.
