Change the method deliberately
General visual search such as Google Lens can surface related images and pages. Text search can follow a caption, watermark or distinctive phrase. A publisher's own catalogue can locate an item that broad search tools have not surfaced.
Use a three-part fallback
- Search the full image and one carefully chosen crop.
- Search any readable credit or asset identifier.
- Compare likely source pages with the untouched file.
For example, an illustration with a visible catalogue number may be easier to locate through the library's text search than through another image upload. A generic portrait without context may remain unresolved.
Avoid the wrong substitute
A face-search tool is not an automatic replacement for copy search, particularly for products, art or scenery. Facehunch's restricted test workflow is also not an exhaustive fallback index. Document which methods you tried and state only that they did or did not produce a useful source.
