Prepare your known-account list
Record your official handles and public profile URLs. Keep originals of the avatar and any logo variant you own. This helps separate expected cross-posting from unfamiliar accounts.
Review candidate pages
- Search the image and one common crop.
- Open unfamiliar profiles normally.
- Read the bio and linked website.
- Record any explicit claim of affiliation or identity.
A fan page may clearly identify itself as unofficial. A page using the same picture and asking followers for payments raises a different, specific issue to report. Do not base the distinction on the image alone.
Keep followers informed carefully
If you need to clarify official channels, publish your own verified links rather than encouraging a pile-on against an uncertain account. Use platform reporting for the documented conduct. Preserve only the evidence necessary to explain the concern and avoid collecting unrelated information about the operator.
