Plan the local footprint
Know where the browser saves files and whether the device syncs them to a shared account. Private browsing can reduce some local history, but it does not erase information already sent to a search provider.
Close the loop
- Use a minimal, permissioned upload copy.
- Avoid saving passwords on the shared device.
- Sign out of the search service when finished.
- Remove your local temporary files and check the download folder.
A screenshot saved to a shared desktop may expose more information than the search itself. Keep source notes in a location you control rather than a public notes application or shared cloud folder.
Understand what cleanup does
Local deletion and logout do not revoke a provider's retained upload. Use the service's removal controls where available and review its policy before sending files. On a device you do not trust, cleanup may not be enough; choose a different environment for private work.
